Mikumi National Park abuts the northern border of Africa’s largest game reserve, the Selous and is transected by a surface road that stretches from Dar-es-Salaam to Iringa. The open horizons and abundant wildlife of the Mkata Floodplain, draws frequent comparisons to the more famous Serengeti. Mikumi boasts lions, zebra wildebeest, impala and buffalos herds as well as giraffe and elephant. There are good game viewing circuits and more than 400 species of birds as well as an awesome hippo pools. With good access from Dar and adequate lodges and camps catering for guests this park is a good option for a safari in the south.
